Centella asiatica, also known as gotu kola, is native to China, Japan, India and Indonesia, but has also been used in African and France since the 17th century. In Aryuvedic medicine, asiatica is used for eczema, psoriasis and lupus, while in Chinese medicine, it is used for its longevity properties, as well as to treat colds and fever.
In Sri Lanka, it is known as the herb of longevity (the elephants eat it and elephants do live long), and in India, it is sometimes called tiger herb as wounded tigers are seen rolling themselves in the leaves.
Asiatica has become widely used in skincare products, as it is proven to help reverse signs of aging.
