Every part of your body starting from the brain to the skin, kidneys, muscles, and heart have a definite function. It is the endocrine system that gives them direction to work. The endocrine system glands send out hormones, which are responsible for telling every part of your body what to do, the time to do it and lastly, how long to do it.

Therefore, hormones are crucial to your health and wellness. What does this mean? Hormones are the body’s chemical messengers that travel in the bloodstream to organs or tissues to ensure they do their work. They affect distinct body processes such as mood, sexual function, metabolism, and growth and development.

What’s in this post?

According to a survey by Women’s Health and ACOG (American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists), it reveals that not many women know about their anatomy. Therefore, to help women have a better understanding of their anatomy and other aspects, this post discusses five hormones that affect the health of women. They include:

  1. Estrogen

It is the primary female hormone, and it is responsible for the growth as well as the health of any female’s reproductive organs. It supplies blood to a woman’s vagina, keeps it elastic and moisturized.

During perimenopause, the levels of this hormone reduce; however, in an irregular trend. The reduction of estrogen at the start of perimenopause might affect a woman’s sexual function directly as it may lead to vaginal dryness. Indirectly, it causes night sweats and hot flashes, which may consume your energy and damage your urge for sex.

  1. Thyroid hormone

Thyroid glands release T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine), which control metabolism. Metabolism affects your weight, internal energy, hair growth, nail, skin, and determines the levels of your energy.

The excess production of thyroid hormone results in hyperthyroidism whose symptoms include weight loss, sweating, color change in hair or skin, and feeling of apprehension. If you do not treat this condition, it may lead to more severe health issues like bone and heart issues. Grave’s disease, autoimmune disease is amongst the major cause of hyperthyroidism, and it is common in women than men.

The inadequate production of thyroid hormones can lead to hypothyroidism that causes changes in your weight, hair, or skin. Also, it causes tiredness and weakness. A study shows that hypothyroidism affects 4% – 10% of women, and this increases with age. Luckily, you can use Cytomel, a man-made form of thyroid hormone to treat this thyroid insufficiency health issue.

Also, particular to women, thyroid disease may lead to problems with the menstrual period as too little or too much thyroid hormone causes your periods to be irregular, heavy, or light. It can as well, stop periods for several months. Other problems that arise because of thyroid disease are issues getting pregnant and problems during your pregnancy.

  1. Growth hormone

Growth hormone helps increase bone and muscle strength in women just like testosterone hormone helps men develop muscle. It helps guard the body tissues against a breakdown; thus, protecting you from injuries and increasing metabolism.

Administration of growth hormone helps increase the levels of the hormone in the body. Research reveals that growth hormone administration, mainly in viscerally obese premenopausal women produces beneficial effects on the body’s compositions as well as cardiovascular risk signs.

  1. Serotonin hormone

This hormone helps boost moods, thus, many people refer to it as a “happy” hormone. It is a vital neurotransmitter and chemical in your body that regulates social behavior, digestion, appetite, memory, sleep, sexual urge and function, and mood. Low levels of serotonin may lead to depression.

According to a study, the brain’s serotonin system in women differs from that of men. Therefore, the study claims that this is the reason why chronic anxiety and depression affect more women than men. Some researchers also show that the serotonin transmitter, as a chemical inhibits milk production and secretion in human mammary glands.

  1. Ghrelin hormone

Your stomach produces ghrelin hormone. Also, small intestines, the brain, and pancreases produce small quantities of this hormone. It is a “hunger” hormone as it stimulates your appetite so that you eat more food than usual and encourages fat storage.

It signals the brain that it is time to eat. Therefore, you should control Ghrelin levels to prevent weight gain, a problem that many women are struggling with.

Sleep deprivation can make you gain weight as you eat more. Practically, if you do not get sufficient sleep, the levels of Ghrelin hormone increases and your brain thinks that you lack enough energy. Thus, you will eat more food even when you don’t need it. Research indicates that high Ghrelin levels and low leptin can increase your appetite and thus, weight gain. One can use feminized cannabis seeds to curb hunger. According to studies, these seeds act as an appetite suppressant.

Fortunately, you can increase the levels of this hormone by having enough sleep.

Conclusion

Hormones are vital substances in a woman’s body. One can use various methods like smoking Indica seeds to deal with hormonal changes and its effects like depression, anxiety, fear etc. They are responsible for every process and can help one lead a healthy life. However, make sure that the levels are within an accepted rage to avoid adverse effects.
